Please, shut up…

No, not you, dear reader. That is what the guy on the right must have thought when the guy on the left started to practise his trumpet skills…. 😀

I took this photo at the Dutch Open Solar Boat Challenge in Goes on June 19, 2009.

Wiki loves art /NL: Kunsthal Rotterdam

29 06 2009

The Kunsthal is a museum in Rotterdam and is situated in the Museumpark. The building was designed by the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas.

For an art project, Wiki loves art/NL, I’ve visited the Kunsthal and took photos. I’ll show some. 🙂

Holland? USA!

23 06 2009

I find it interesting to receive cards from other countries that show some kind of Dutch ‘heritage’. This card shows the city of Pella, Iowa, USA. It was founded in 1847 when eight hundred Dutch immigrants led by Dominee Hendrik (Henry) P. Scholte settled the area.

In Downtown Pella, the Molengracht (Mill Canal) emerges from under the street by the 1850’s Vermeer Mill and flows the length of the plaza surrounded by 18th centrury Dutch architecture. Unique shops, offices, restaurants, lodging and entertainment facilites line the brick pedestrian walkways.

Shadow and sun

14 06 2009

For the photography project I blogged about before, I took this photo with the theme ‘shadow’.  The photo was taken just outside the Hospital in Vlissingen. My mother had an appointment and while waiting I took some photos. I think this one turned out to be the best. I like it how the shadow appears on the zebra

For the photo chain, I took this photo of an older t-shirt. I like the bright colours and the blue sky.

Water photos

13 05 2009

For a photo project I selected some water themed photos. I’ll show them here. 🙂

Some weeks ago I took this photo of a fire hydrant in operation when a nearby situated cafe burnt down.

Unfortunately it doesn’t happen too often that the weather is in the mood to transform landscapes into misterious white worlds.  But sometimes we are lucky. 🙂

This photo was taken at the ‘Oosterschelde’ (Eastern Scheldt), the biggest National Park in The Netherlands. It’s a wonderful place for scuba divers. In the background you  can see the ‘Zeelandbrug’ (Zeeland Bridge), with 5 km’s it’s the longest bridge in The Netherlands.

And here’s a photo of the harbour in Goes, my favourite place here. 🙂

Cheese… from Gouda

10 05 2009

I also like cheese postcards (I enjoy eating cheese as well ;)) so I’m going to show some cheese too and I start with the world’s most famous (and for me most nearby) Dutch cheese, Gouda! This wheel-shaped cheese is made of cow’s milk and has it’s origin in the area of the city of Gouda in the West of The Netherlands. The Netherlands started to export cheese in the Middle Ages. Since then, and the era’s afterwards, The Netherlands became world widely known as the cheese country.

A Gouda Cheese market scene, these days only held during Summer, for tourists purposes:
